The name “Trong” could have been derived from the local Khengkha dialect which means a “Village”. It is a clustered settlement, comprising of 27 households and is believed to have been built during the time of Lam Zhang Dorji Drakpa around 12th century. The spectacular settlement pattern seen on either side of the stone paved paths beholds the testament to invaluable remnants of human history for future generations and is an architectural piece in all it’s simplicity. The village has with-stood all disasters and given its distinctive setting, His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck commanded it to be preserved as a heritage village and retain its traditional and aesthetic beauty. The village was identified as heritage site in 2014.
