The Bhutan Bird Festival is an annual celebration held in Tingtibi, Zhemgang from 13th to 14th November, showcasing Bhutan’s exceptional biodiversity and deep-rooted conservation values. Organized in conjunction with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the festival draws bird enthusiasts, researchers, and conservationists from across the globe. Zhemgang is recognized as a key biodiversity hotspot in Bhutan, home to 357 bird species, including globally threatened birds such as the White-bellied Heron, Rufous-necked Hornbill, and Beautiful Nuthatch—making it a vital location for ornithological interest.

Beyond birdwatching, the festival integrates local culture, education, and sustainable development, featuring traditional dances, archery, bird art competitions, eco-tourism exhibitions, and local product markets. It serves not only as a celebration of Bhutan’s natural heritage but also as a community-driven platform that promotes conservation awareness and economic opportunities for rural communities. With strong participation from schools, villagers, and conservation groups, the Bhutan Bird Festival exemplifies Bhutan’s unique model of harmonizing environmental protection with cultural preservation and inclusive development.
