Zhemgang, historically known as Khengrig Namsum, is a Dzongkhag situated in the south-central region of Bhutan. The name “Khengrig Namsum” signifies the three divisions of Kheng, which include Upper (Chikhor), Middle (Namkor), and Lower (Tamachok) Kheng. Zhemgang is blessed with incredibly rich biodiversity and lies within a wildlife corridor that includes prominent national parks like Royal Manas National Park, Jigme Singye Wangchuck National, and Phrumsengla National Park.The Dzongkhag’s lush forests are home to numerous endangered animals and bird species. Additionally, it is located in close proximity to Bhutan’s largest river basins, the Mangde Chhu and Drangme Chhu basins.
The Dzongkhag consists of eight Gewogs, namely Bardo, Trong, Shingkhar, Nangkor, Bjoka, Goshing, Ngangla, and Phangkhar. These Gewogs are distributed across Upper Kheng and Lower Kheng.
The inhabitants of Zhemgang are renowned for their rich cultural heritage, particularly their folk songs, dances, and skilled bamboo craftsmanship. Agriculture and livestock rearing are the primary occupations of the local populace.
Zhemgang experiences warm and humid climatic conditions in most parts, with moderately cool temperatures in its northern regions.
The Manas River basin, holds significant importance in Bhutan’s natural landscape and socioeconomic well-being. It comprises four major sub-basins, namely Mangde Chhu, Chamkhar Chhu, Kuri Chhu, and Drangme Chhu.
The Dzongkhag has embraced eco-tourism and is gearing up to boost its image as an eco-tourism capital.

By Air and Road:

1: Fly to Paro International Airport (PBH), which is the only international airport in Bhutan. You can fly to Paro from major cities like Delhi, Kathmandu, Bangkok, Singapore, etc.

2: From Paro, you’ll need to travel to Zhemgang by road. The distance from Paro to Zhemgang is 305.1 kilometers, and it takes around 8-10 hours to reach Zhemgang by road. You can hire a private car, take a taxi, or use public buses for this journey.

By Road from Nearby Towns/Cities:
